The Parish Council work with a team of volunteers across the Parish, to help clear drains, snow etc. PLEASE do volunteer to be on call to assist is in helping to keep the village safe, mobile and check on elderly or vulnerable Parishioners who may be in need. Do feel free to alert us that you would appreciate being on the care list to check.
We are fortunate that the London Inn has a big generator "Vera" and is often a hub during such times of need.
Morchard Bishop is actually situated on a hill with an elevation of over 170m or 560 feet above sea level. The risk of flooding is low. However, with today’s changing climate and extreme weather conditions, it is worth knowing what to do in the case of extreme wet weather. Here are a few tips:

Think about all the things you need to do before, during, and after a flood. What do you need to move, where will you go for help, and who you might need to help. How do I shut off the gas and electricity? Where do I get sandbags? Keep emergency numbers at hand. What will you do with your pets?
- Take preventative action - If a flood is expected in your area, there are plenty of things you can do to help protect your property, including:
- Move furniture, rugs and items of value upstairs or raising them up off the ground if this isn’t possible
- Place perishable things in waterproof bags
- Fill containers with clean water
- Turn off gas, water and electricity supplies
- Block water entering through doors and windows with sandbags or pillowcases filled with earth
- Cover airbricks and vents
- Block water inlet pipes with towels or cloths
- Throw curtains over the rail out of reach of the flood water
- Move your car to higher ground and somewhere away from risk
